Takeda Agrees to $2.4 Billion Settlement Over Actos Bladder Cancer Lawsuits

Takeda Agrees to $2.4 Billion Settlement Over Actos Bladder Cancer Lawsuits

Takeda Pharmaceutical Company - one of the largest pharmaceutical corporations in the world - agreed last month to pay $2.4 billion to settle thousands of lawsuits filed by individuals who claim they were diagnosed with bladder cancer after taking Actos. A prescription medication used to treat Type 2 diabetes, Actos has been the target of scrutiny by consumers, federal officials, and safety advocates for years.

The settlement - which was reached on April 28 th after years of litigation - is designed to financially compensate individuals and families for their losses. Specifically, victims are alleging that they were diagnosed with bladder cancer after taking Actos. Although the settlement will provide much needed compensation for victims and families, Takeda has not admitted to any wrongdoing.

According to statements released by Takeda officials, the settlement funds will be distributed if at least 95% of plaintiffs agree to the terms. If 97% of plaintiffs opt in, Takeda would have to increase the settlement to $2.7 billion.

The significant settlement is a testament to the civil justice system and the fact that individuals harmed by dangerous products have rights. At The Daspit Law Firm, we also help victims and families who have suffered as a result of defective products and medications.
